Well Put

Privacy policy

Last updated October 23, 2026

Well Put is a vocabulary app. The words live on your phone, your progress lives on your phone, and an account is optional. This page explains the little we keep when you do sign in, who else sees it, and how to remove it.

Who we are

Well Put is made by Digital Darwin LLC. Questions about this policy go to [email protected].

Without an account

You can use everything on the daily word, study and browse screens without signing in. The word pack is bundled with the app and your stars, flashcard schedule, quiz scores and streak are stored only on your device. In that mode the app contacts our server for one thing: checking whether a newer word pack is available, which sends no account or device identifier.

What we collect when you sign in

  • Account details. Your name, email address and a hashed password, or the identifier Apple or Google gives us when you sign in with them. We use these to sign you in and to contact you about your account.
  • Study progress. Which words you have starred, the spaced-repetition schedule for each word, your quiz accuracy per word and how many reviews you did each day. Signing in exists to copy this between your devices; that is all it is used for.
  • Subscription status. If you buy Pro, our payment processor (RevenueCat) tells us whether the subscription is active and when it ends. We never see your card or store account.
  • Technical records. The IP address and device type attached to each sign-in, used for security and abuse prevention.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos or advertising identifiers, and the app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.

YouTube clips

Some words come with short clips of real people using them. Those clips are embedded from YouTube and played by YouTube's player inside the app, so when you play one, YouTube (Google) receives the same information it would if you opened the video in a browser, under YouTube's terms and Google's privacy policy. We do not host or copy the videos. Our server only stores which video, at which second, contains which word.

Who else sees your data

  • Apple and Google. Only if you choose to sign in with them, and only to confirm who you are; and YouTube as described above when you play a clip.
  • RevenueCat. Processes in-app subscriptions on our behalf and tells us whether yours is active.
  • Our hosting providers. Our servers and database run on infrastructure we rent. Providers have no access to your data beyond what is needed to operate those machines.

We do not sell your data and never share it with advertisers.

Where the words come from

Definitions, examples, etymologies and mnemonics in Well Put are written for the app. No dictionary or third-party reference text is copied.

How long we keep it

Your account and synced progress stay until you delete them. Server logs are rotated within a few weeks.

Deleting your account

Open Account in the app and choose Delete my account. Your account and every synced record are erased immediately and cannot be recovered; the copy on your phone stays until you uninstall the app. If you can no longer sign in, email [email protected] from the address on the account and we will delete it for you.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted at any time. Deletion is built into the app; for anything else, email us and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

Well Put is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters to you, we will update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email. See also our terms of service.
